Would anyone like to guess what happened this week to Sister Oldham? I bet you can’t. The subject line is just a hint to how this week went for me.
So all the fun this week started with last p-day when we were asked to do that live on that one facebook page. It honestly went very well, it just had me super duper anxious. So that was the beginning. On Wednesday, we started a 2-day-long exchange with the MSTLs (or mission sister training leaders). They are basically Sister Assistants to the Mission President. Anyway, Sister Bristol came to Burleson and it was super refreshing. We got to focus on getting me used to being an STL and stuff like that.
While on this exchange, two very drunk men knocked on our door… stumbling over their words, they told us that the tires on our car were very low and we should probably fill them up. It was very strange, but we went and looked and decided they were probably right. Ha. Well we go to the gas station to check the tire pressure and fill up and I guess it was a huge blessing those men showed up because one of our tires was all the way down to 9 PSI!!!!! We also had a super long drive we had to make that day and there was no way we would’ve made it if we hadn’t filled up…
Okay. Moving on. Exchange goes great and we end the exchange and the next day get a call from President that my companion is going to another area. THAT DAY! Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? So because of the sad news, my companion wants to go take pics with all of us. So we go to the courtyard and as we are taking our last pictures, one of the Sisters trips and is suddenly on the ground, screaming. I rush over and quickly see that her knee is not looking the way it’s suppose to look. We were too afraid to move her because of how much pain she was in and how far away from the car we were, so I decided to call 911. Thankfully, they were there within a few minutes because she started to go into shock and shake uncontrollably. She was fairly stable through the process, but I won’t lie, it was quite freaky for a bit.
They assessed her knee and decided to take her to the hospital. Because of COVID, none of us were able to go with her in the ambulance, so me and another Sister in the apartment rushed to the hospital she was taken to, or so we thought…. We run into the hospital, get screened and run to the ER to give the doctors her information. (She went in the ambulance without anything, not even her phone). So they told us she hadn’t arrived yet and we needed to wait outside because, once again, COVID. So we were waiting for maybe 40 minutes before going back in to find out she was actually taken to a hospital in Fort Worth…
SO WE RUSH TO THE HOSPITAL IN FORTH WORTH. And find out only one person can go see her every 24 HOURS. So we call President, who is on his way, and decide he should be the one to see her so he can give her a blessing. President shows up and goes in and we start heading home. About a minute later, we get a call from Pres telling us to come back! He had walked in as soon as they let her go. So we brought her home! Turns out she only dislocated her kneecap, so that hurts… but at least it wasn’t anything worse.
That night I got my new companion and she is amazing. She is such a powerhouse and so ready to get to work. We also both spoke on Sunday and only had that morning to prepare for it so that was also exciting!
There is more on the exciting list, but I think I’m gonna call it a day and end with my spiritual thought for the week.
There were a bunch of really really hard things that happened this week. But after every single incident, there was an incredible miracle that took place. I have decided that this year I want to focus on being better at recognizing the blessings I receive every day. I could very easily stay sad and negative about all the hard things that happened, but if I focus on all the good that took place, I feel overwhelmed by love, gratitude and joy.
-It was a blessing those men told us bout our car
-President Chapman showed up just in time for our Sister who was in the ER and she was home and recovering before the end of the night
-After a very difficult meeting, a member saw us at the store and paid for our groceries.
-After finding out about the loss of a loved one, we had dinner with the nicest family ever.
-God blessed me with a snow day!
So many positive things! How can I not be grateful? I know God loves us and is aware of everything we go through. I know he wants to bless us and that we can find the blessings that come even on the really really hard days. I am eternally grateful for the immediate goodness of God.
Love you guys so much. Count your blessings!
